Transfer Students

What is Financial Aid?

Financial Aid refers to any type of money available to students and their parents to fund a college education. This includes institutional scholarships, HOPE Scholarship, grants, loans and work study.

How to Apply for Aid

Priority deadline for applying for financial aid as a transfer student for the next academic year is May 1st . This includes an acceptance from Admissions and completed financial aid documents.

STEP ONE: The Georgia Tech Application For Financial Aid and Scholarships

All students wishing to receive funds from Federal, State, or Institutional sources must complete a Georgia Tech Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid. The priority deadline for this online application for Transfer Students is May 1st.

Financial Aid award packages are for one academic year only, so students must reapply for Financial Aid each year.

STEP TWO: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Financial Aid from ANY Sources: Students wishing to apply for all programs that Georgia Tech's Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA) administers, including Federal, State, and Institutional programs will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The OSFA must receive a processed, valid, and complete FAFSA by May 1st for Transfer Students entering in the next Fall semester.

Please note that FAFSA processing can take from 1 to 3 weeks.

A valid FAFSA, processed by the U.S. Department of Education, is required for the OSFA to determine whether you qualify for Federal, State, or Institutional funds that carry a financial need component.

Georgia Tech's Title IV school code for the FAFSA is 001569.

HOPE ONLY TRANSFER STUDENTS

For Georgia residents applying for ONLY the HOPE Scholarship , the Georgia Student Financial Aid Application System (GSFAPPS) is the primary means for applying for the HOPE Scholarship administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC).

GSFAPPS is a web based application process that captures and edits all required application data to meet each GSFC program's unique requirements. To access GSFAPPS, an applicant must go through GACollege411.org . To apply, an applicant must register as a user of Georgia College 411.

You must select Georgia Institute of Technology as the school you will attend.

You must also complete the Georgia Tech Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid listed in STEP ONE above.

The priority deadline for this online application for transfer students is May 1st for the next Fall semester.

Final transcripts from all of your previous schools must be received by the Admissions department before your HOPE eligibility can be determined. HOPE Scholarship counts all attempted hours from all institutions. For detailed information on new HOPE regulations, visit the Georgia Student Finance Commission web site at www.gsfc.org.

STEP THREE: Provide additional information if requested

Some students will be required to complete the process of Verification.

Verification is the process in which OSFA must verify that the information on the FAFSA is accurate.

If you are selected for Verification, you must complete the Verification process before any awards will be finalized. Our office will contact you about submitting additional required documents. OSFA will submit any and all changes required as a result of Verification.

STEP FOUR: Review Your Award Offer

For Transfer students,

  • Georgia Tech must have officially admitted you.

  • Received all your transcripts.

  • Your transcripts must be articulated prior to an official award being made.

Loans

Stafford loans, both subsidized and unsubsidized, and parent loans (PLUS) are available to transfer students. Your loan amount will be based on the grade level determined by the transcripts that have been received and articulated at the time that your award is made.
