President's Scholarship Program

The President's Scholarship is Georgia Tech's premier merit-based award. It is offered to the most outstanding entering freshmen who have demonstrated superb leadership skills, are among the top few in their class in academic performance, and show promise of continuing such performance in college and beyond.

President’s Scholarships are renewable for four years of study provided the scholar performs at honors level (3.2 GPA on a scale of 4.0) on a full-time basis.  The President’s Scholarship Program was founded in 1981 by Dr. E. Jo Baker.  The funds listed below provide support for the President’s Scholarship Program.  The spirit of generosity which made this program possible has brought numerous and far-reaching benefits to the entire Georgia Tech community.

A rising high school senior may apply for the President's Scholarship by completing an application for admissions to Georgia Tech by November 1st.

Anonymous President's Scholarship

This endowment was established in 1999 to provide financial support to students with demonstrated financial need in the College of Engineering. It will be funded in 2006.

Dr. E. Jo Baker President's Scholarship

This scholarship was endowed in 2001 to recognize the founder of the President's Scholarship Program. The endowment is comprised of funds given by PS alumni. Dana Papp Harmer was one of the PS alumni who led the effort to raise the funds. As a student, Dana was the drum major of the marching band.

Louis C. Bodenheimer, IM 1941, President's Scholarship Endowment

Funding through a charitable reminder unitrust established the Louis C. Bodenheimer, IM 1941, President's Scholarship Endowment. Mr. Bodenheimer retired to Palm Beach, Florida after living for many years in Stockton, New Jersey. A native of Atlanta, he earned his Industrial Management degree from Georgia Tech in 1941. Following graduation, Mr. Bodenheimer lived in New York and traveled extensively internationally.  His interests included skiing and the arts.

Carl F. "Tex" Branson President's Scholarship

This endowment was established by Mr. Branson in 1999 to support out-of-state students in the School of Aerospace Engineering, whose course of study emphasizes fixed-wing aircraft. Recipients are President's Scholars who are chosen by the Chair of the School of Aerospace Engineering. Mr. Branson earned his Aerospace Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1949. He was an active student, having served as the president of Omicron Delta Kappa, a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, and a member of the varsity track and cross country teams. Mr. Branson is the retired president of Branson Aircraft Corporation, an aircraft equipment manufacturer.

D. William Brosnan Fund

This endowment was created in 1981 for meritorious students. Southern Railway System established this fund to honor its former president, Mr. D. William Brosnan, a native of Albany, Georgia. Mr. Brosnan earned his Civil Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1923. He spent 41 years with Southern Railway before retiring in 1967. From 1962 to 1967, he was Southern Railway's chief executive officer. The company is now part of Norfolk Southern.

Edward J. Brown, Jr. President's Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship was established in 2003 to honor the donor's father, Mr. Edward J. Brown, Jr. The donor, Mr. Edward J. Brown III, earned his degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech in 1970.

Brown Stove Works, Inc. FiveStar Division President's Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship was established in 2003 to serve President's Scholars studying Management or Industrial Engineering from the geographic area served by the company. Mr. Brown earned his Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1964.

Class of 1934 Fund

This endowment was created in 2000 by the Class of 1934.

Class of 1940 Fund

This endowment was created in 2000 by the Class of 1940.

Class of 1951 Fund

This endowment was created in 1991 at the fortieth reunion of the Class of 1951.

Class of 1953 President's Scholarship

This endowment was created by the Class of 1953.

Class of 1961 President's Scholarship

This endowment was created in 2001 at the fortieth reunion of the Class of 1961.

Class of 1965 Fund

This endowment was created in 1990 at the twenty-fifth reunion of the Class of 1965.

Class of 1968 Fund

This endowment was created in 1993 at the twenty-fifth reunion of the Class of 1968.

Cooley Family President's Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2000 by Mr. H. Keith Cooley. Mr. Cooley earned his Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1975. He has since served on the College of Computing Advisory Board and was named College of Engineering Distinguished Alumnus in 2000.

Joseph M. Dallavalle President's Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2000 in honor of Mr. Joseph M. Dallavalle, a favorite professor of the donor, Mr. Robert E. Vaughn. Mr. Vaughn earned his Chemical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1951. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

K. Knowles Davis President's Scholarship

This endowment was established in 1998 by Mr. D. Fort Flowers, Jr. (ME 1983), in memory of his grandfather, K. Knowles Davis, who earned his Electrical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1925. This fund assists President's Scholars from the state of Texas with preference to residents of Houston.

Donald James Deiters President's Scholarship

This endowment was created in 1999 by Mrs. Donald James Deiters to honor the life of her husband, who earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1947. Recipients must have demonstrated academic merit and financial need. Preference is given to President's Scholars majoring in Mechanical Engineering, then to other engineering majors.

Fred and Susie Donovan President's Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2001 by Mr. Frederick C. Donovan. Mr. Donovan earned his Civil Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1962. While a student at Georgia Tech, he was a resident assistant and a member of Kappa Alpha Order.

Epstein Family President's Scholarship

This fund supports undergraduates in the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, who have demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to residents of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, then to other residents of Texas. This scholarship was established by the Epstein Family Foundation to honor Mr. James C. Epstein. Mr. Epstein earned his Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1981.

Andrew E. Farkas President's Scholarship Endowment

Future funding will provide the Andrew E. Farkas President's Scholarship for students who are not residents of Georgia. Mr. Farkas earned his degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech in 1969.

Robert Ferst Fund

This endowment was established in 1981 with a commitment from the M. & H. Ferst Foundation and the R. J. Ferst Foundation. This fund became the basis for the President's Scholarship Program. Robert Ferst earned his master's degree from Georgia Tech in 1940 and went on to serve as Chairman of Scripto Pen & Pencil.

Reginald S. Fleet, ME Class of 1916 Fund

In 1987, Julia B. Fleet established this endowment in memory of her parents Reginald S. and Julia W. Fleet. Mr. Fleet earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1916. He founded the company that manufactured WD-40.

James C. Fry Endowment

This fund was established in 1999 and gives preference to students in the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering or the School of Textile and Fiber Engineering. Fry Scholars should be bright, motivated, take initiative to empower themselves, and love their fellow man.

Jesse Jordon Gardner President's Scholarship

This endowment honors the memory of Mr. Jesse Jordon Gardner, who earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1915. He was a family friend of the donor, Adams D. (A.D.) Little, who earned his degree in Industrial Management in 1953. While at Georgia Tech, Mr. Gardner was active in athletics, the Society of Mechanical Engineers, and his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Mr. Gardner was a man of letters both on and off the athletic field.

David Garrett/Boeing Fund

The Boeing Company established this endowment in 1987 to honor David C. Garrett, Jr. In that year, Mr. Garrett retired as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Delta Air Lines. Mr. Garrett earned his Industrial Management degree from Georgia Tech in 1955.

Sherman and Alana Glass President's Scholarship Endowment

This scholarship was established in 2003 for President's Scholars majoring in Chemical Engineering with a preference to those who are co-ops. Mr. Glass earned his degree in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1971.

Lloyd O. Harris, Jr., Class of 1943 Fund

An endowment was started in 1999 by Dorothy R. Harris to honor the memory of her late husband, Lloyd O. Harris, Jr. Mr. Harris earned his Industrial Management degree from Georgia Tech in 1943. He was the president of Southern Phoenix Corporation, a manufacturer of polyester backing fabrics for the automotive industry.

Dr. Cecil G. Johnson Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2001 in honor of Dr. Cecil G. Johnson, a favorite professor of Mr. David C. Garrett, Jr. Mr. Garrett earned his Industrial Management degree from Georgia Tech in 1955.

Alan J. and Caron A. Lacy President's Scholarship

Future funding will provide for this scholarship, established in 1999 by the Lacys. Out-of-state students with demonstrated financial need will be given preference. Mr. Alan J. Lacy earned his degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech in 1975. He is chairman of the board and CEO for Sears, Roebuck and Co., and he has held senior positions with various companies including Kraft, Inc.

Charles R. Livingston Endowment

A planned gift provided for this endowment fund in honor of Mr. Charles R. Livingston. Mr. Livingston earned his Electrical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1950.

Mitchell D. Lukin President's Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2000 by Mr. Mitchell D. Lukin. Mr. Lukin earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1972 and 1976, respectively. While an undergraduate, Mr. Lukin worked as a resident assistant for the Department of Housing.

Ronald L. Martin Fund

This endowment was established in 1995 with proceeds from a life insurance policy, which named the Class of 1968 President's Scholarship Program as a beneficiary. Mr. Ronald Lee "Ron" Martin earned his degree in Industrial Management in 1968. He owned the Ronald L. Martin Co. in Houston, Texas. He was elected to the Georgia Tech Alumni Association Board of Trustees in 1987 and was a director and past president of the Houston Georgia Tech Club. Mr. Martin was also a recipient of the Club's Distinguished Alumni Award.

Lane Middleton President's Scholarship Endowment

This scholarship was established in 2003 for U.S. citizens, who are juniors or seniors and have participated in the co-op program. Preference is given to students with need who are residents of Georgia or Virginia. Mr. Middleton earned his Textiles degree from Georgia Tech in 1953.

G. D. Monroe President's Scholarship

This scholarship fund was established in 1999 by Mr. John H. Burson III, M.C., in honor of his fraternity brother Mr. G. D. Monroe. Mr. Monroe and Dr. Burson, were members of Beta Theta Pi fraternity at Georgia Tech. Dr. Burson earned his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering in 1956, master's degree in Metallurgy in 1963, and a Ph.D. in 1964, all from Georgia Tech. As an alumnus, Dr. Burson has served on the School of Chemical Engineering Advisory Board and the Alexander-Tharpe Board.

Charles D. and Brenda B. Moseley Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2000 by Mr. Charles D. Moseley. Mr. Moseley earned his Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1964. He was named a College of Engineering Distinguished Alumnus in 1995.

Pleak Family President's Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2000. Mrs. Pleak's husband, Mr. H. Keith Cooley, earned his Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1975. He has since served on the College of Computing Advisory Board and was named College of Engineering Distinguished Alumnus in 2000.

Donald S. and Patricia F. Pirkle President's Scholarship Endowment

This fund was set up in 1998 to support undergraduates with financial need who are majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech. Mr. Pirkle earned his Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1958. He is a retired executive of Dow Chemical USA. As an alumnus, Mr. Pirkle has served on the Georgia Tech National Advisory Board and has acted as its chairman. In addition, Mr. Pirkle was an active member of the Centennial Campaign Steering Committee and the Class of 1958 Reunion Steering Committee.

Bill Schutz President's Scholarship

This fund was created in 2000 by Sam Blasingame to support students in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Mr. Blasingame earned his Civil Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1970. Preference is given to out-of-state students. The scholarship has been created in memory of Mr. Frederick William "Bill" Schutz, a former faculty member in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Frank A. Soto Scholarship

A planned gift will create the Frank A. Soto Scholarship. A native of Cuba, Mr. Soto earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1962.

Ronda R. Sides President's Scholarship

This Scholarship was established in 2000 by Mrs. Ronda R. Sides. Mrs. Sides earned her Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1983 and earned her MBA from Wharton in 1989. While a student at Georgia Tech, she was student body president.

Stamps Family President's Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2000 by the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation. Mr. E. Roe Stamps earned his Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1967.

R. Joe Taylor President's Scholarship

This endowment was established in 1998 by Mr. R. Joe Taylor, who earned his Industrial Management degree from Georgia Tech in 1956. He is a Chartered Life Underwriter who founded his own agency in 1968. He is a life member of the Million Dollar Roundtable, recipient of the National Quality Award from the life insurance industry, and a director of the Georgia Tech YMCA. R. Joe Taylor President's Scholars should be in Management and selected based on academic merit and leadership. Qualified students with demonstrated financial need receive preference in selection.

William J. VanLandingham President's Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2000 by Mrs. Barbara VanLandingham Pettway in memory of her husband. Mr. VanLandingham earned his Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1959 and was the former president of NationsBank of Georgia.

Jack C. Webb President's Scholarship

This fund was established in 1997 by Mr. Jack Webb, who earned his Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1957. Formerly a design engineer with Amoco Production Company, Mr. Webb retired from a subsidiary of the corporation. He was responsible for the design of oil production facilities both on and offshore worldwide. A member of the Alexander-Tharpe Club and the Houston Georgia Tech Club, Mr. Webb served on the committee for his fortieth reunion. The Jack C. Webb President's Scholarship supports undergraduates in Engineering or Architecture.

Fred B. Wenn Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2001 in honor of Mr. Fred B. Wenn, a favorite professor of Mr. David C. Garrett, Jr. Mr. Garrett earned his degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech in 1955.

Robert C. West, CE 1949, President's Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2001 by Mr. Robert C. West to support President's Scholars studying Civil Engineering. Mr. West, who is now deceased, wanted to help support succeeding generations of engineers. He earned his Civil Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1949.

James F. Williams Endowed Fund

Future funding will provide for this endowment, established by Mr. James Fennell Williams. Mr. Williams earned his Electrical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1949. The scholarship honors Mr. Williams's high school math teacher, Mr. Blake Isley of E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Virginia, who was instrumental in Mr. Williams's decision to attend Georgia Tech. The James F. Williams Endowed Fund will support President's Scholars from Lynchburg, Virginia, then from the Commonwealth of Virginia, then from states other than Georgia.

Paul Williams President's Scholarship Fund

This endowment was created in 1999 by Mr. Paul H. Williams. Mr. Williams earned his Chemical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1960. He is the retired vice president and general manager of Hoechst Celanese Corporation's Performance Products Division. In 1995, he was selected for the Georgia Tech Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni. He is the past president of the Charlotte Georgia Tech Club and vice chairman of the Charlotte Regional Development Council. Mr. Williams is a former trustee of the Georgia Tech Alumni Board and served as his Fortieth Reunion Fund Raising Chair. Recipients of the Paul H. Williams President's Scholarship should be engineering majors at Georgia Tech, who grew up in a small town or rural area of the American South, with first preference to those studying Chemical Engineering.

Ronald W. Woliver President's Scholarship

This endowment was set up in 1999 by Ronald W. Woliver for President's Scholars participating in the co-op program at Georgia Tech. Mr. Woliver earned his Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1965. As a student at Georgia Tech, Mr. Woliver was an active member of the co-op program, Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and the American Institute of Industrial Engineering. As an alumnus, Mr. Woliver has served as President of both the Houston Regional Committee and the Houston Georgia Tech Club.
