Federal Direct Loan Program

Georgia Tech participates in Direct Lending, which provides a streamlined, high-quality, cost-effective, and dependable loan program for Georgia Tech families. The Federal Direct Loan Program includes:

  • Subsidized Direct Student Loans
  • Unsubsidized Direct Student Loans
  • Direct Parent PLUS Loans
  • Graduate Direct PLUS Loans.

Steps required for all borrowers:

  • To apply, complete the FAFSA and Georgia Tech Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid (GTAPP) for the appropriate academic year. Indicate on the GTAPP that you want to be considered for loans.
  • To finalize loans that appear on your Award Notice, there are three steps:

(A) the online Direct Student Loan Certification* and/or
(B) the Direct Parent PLUS Loan Request (This application is to be completed by dependent undergraduates working with their parent on the parent portion of the form. To protect security of the information provided, students must log in with their GT password.)* or
(C) the Direct Grad PLUS Loan Certification (Graduate students only)*

* Be sure to complete the form for the appropriate year.

Complete Student Loan Counseling at www.studentloans.gov/
This step is requred for the Subsidized and Unsubsidized Direct Stafford Student Loans and for the Graduate PLUS loan. It is not required for the Parent PLUS loan.

Step #5

Complete for every semester of enrollment

During registration period

Register for at least 6 credit hours. Disbursements to eligible students begin on the Wednesday before the first day of class.
