New Loan Program for the 2009-2010 Academic Year (Fall 2009, Spring 2010)

New steps required for all borrowers

Beginning with Fall, 2009, Georgia Tech will participate in the Federal Direct Loan Program. Participation in Direct Lending provides a streamlined, high-quality, cost-effective, and dependable loan program for Georgia Tech families. Comprehensive information on these loans is available at www.direct.ed.gov.

The Federal Direct Loan Program includes: Subsidized Direct Student Loans, Unsubsidized Direct Student Loans, Direct Parent PLUS Loans, and Graduate Direct PLUS Loans.

  • To apply, complete the 2009-2010 FAFSA and Georgia Tech Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid (GTAPP). Indicate on the GTAPP that you want to be considered for loans.
  • To finalize loans that appear on your 2009-2010 Award Letter, there are three steps:

Submit the online 2009-2010 Direct Student Loan Certification and/or the 2009-2010 Direct Parent PLUS Loan Request or the 2009-2010 Direct Grad PLUS Loan Certification

Step #2

Beginning Now Through June 30

Complete Student Loan Counseling at www.dl.ed.gov

Step #3

Beginning July 1 for Fall semester, OSFA will send notices that it’s time to complete this step.

Sign the electronicMaster Promissory Note (MPN) on receipt of your notice

Step #4

Beginning now through August 1

Step #5

During registration period

Register for at least 6 credit hours. Disbursements to eligible students begin on the Wednesday before the first day of class.
