What is GThanks?

GThanks is the initiative to show appreciation to the donor and/or their family whose generosity made the scholarship/fellowship program available. Recipients of a scholarship or fellowship will be required to write a Thank You letter.

October 15 - Deadline

October - Thank you letters will be sent to Donors

January 6th - Begin Spring disbursments for scholarships to those students who have submitted thank you letters

How do I submit my Thank You Letter?

Recipients will be notified by email of the letter(s) required, how, and to whom the letters should be addressed.

The OSFA will serve as the drop-off point for the Thank You letters. All recipients of Scholarships and Fellowships that are provided/sustained by GT Donors and their families are required to submit a Thank You letter.

The Thank You letter must be received by OSFA by October 15, 2009 or your award will be revoked.

Is participation mandatory?

Yes. Failure to comply may result in the loss of future scholarship money.

Are the Thank You Letters required to be handwritten or typed?

You can submit the Thank You letter either electronically as an MS Word document, a PDF file, or by legible handwritten notes.

If I am receiving the HOPE Scholarship or another state scholarship such as RC Byrd or Governors, am I required to write a Thank You letter?

No. State funded scholarships/grants do not require Thank You Letters.

What if I receive multiple scholarships?

You will need to write a Thank You letter for each scholarship. Note: Some scholarships may not have a donor contact, therefore do not require a Thank You letter. Our office will provide you with the donor contact information when needed.

I have lost the name of the donor of my scholarship?

To obtain the name of the donor, please email gthanks@finaid.gatech.edu

If I have received the same scholarship for 2 or more years, am I required to write a new thank you letter?

Yes, it is important that you continue to acknowledge your gratitude for the scholarship. You should provide an update to the donor of your studies, new projects or accomplishments, etc. You may have already established a relationship with your donor, and they are interested in your continued success at Georgia Tech.
