Academic Competitiveness Grant and SMART Grant
Two federal aid programs that may benefit eligible Georgia Tech students. Students must complete the FAFSA and Georgia Tech Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid to have their eligibility evaluated. No separate application is required. Note: The 2010-2011 academic year will be the last time that these programs will be funded.
Academic Competitiveness Grant

Pell Grant Recipient

U.S. Citizen or permanent resident

Graduated after January 2005 from a “academically rigorous” high school program

Freshmen or sophomores with an enrollment status of at least half-term
-
Freshmen can receive up to a maximum of $750 per year
-
Sophomores can receive up to a maximum of $1,300 per year and must achieve and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA
The OSFA is working with Undergraduate Admissions to determine which high school programs meet the federal definition of “rigorous”.
SMART Grant

Juniors or seniors with an enrollment status of at least half-term

Achieve and maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA

In a qualifying major – Math, Science, and/or Engineering Degree Programs

Up to $4,000 per year

Once you earn the number of hours required for your undergraduate degree, eligibility for the SMART grant ends.
