Federal Work Study
The Federal Work Study (FWS) program is a federally funded Title IV student financial aid program designed to provide work opportunities for students, enabling them to earn funds for meeting educational expenses. In addition, the program provides an opportunity for students to gain work experience in their areas of academic and non-academic interest. The program has certain eligibility requirements a student must meet to participate. Based on the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and subject to availability of funding, eligible students are awarded an amount that may be earned through part-time employment in an approved work study position authorized by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA).
Finding a Work Study Job at Georgia Tech:
If the student has been awarded Federal Work Study, a notice will be sent to the student’s Georgia Tech email address. The email will provide a link to the available positions which may vary from tutoring elementary-aged children, to working as a lab assistant, or performing office duties such as filing, answering the phones, etc. Once the student has been offered a position by a department, a Personal Services Form (PSF) will be completed by the hiring department and signed by OSFA.
The student will initiate the work study job search by reviewing the web site of approved positions. Students are not placed in a work study position. Should the student need assistance in finding a job to match their hours and interest, the FWS Coordinator will be able to assist.
Please note that some positions may request a resume during the interview process.
