Federal Work Study

The Federal Work Study (FWS) Program provides funds for part-time jobs which allow students to earn money needed to pay for educational expenses. Work-Study awards are a form of federal financial aid. Positions are available both on and off campus. Students are encouraged to find positions that provide work experience in their field of study or provide valuable service to the community.

The advantages of participating in the FWS program are that the money you earn helps to meet your college expenses and will not be counted as income for your financial aid eligibility determination next year. You will also get on-the-job experience to give you an edge in the job market after graduation. You will be able to work with accomplished professionals in your field which will provide you with valuable references in the future.

To receive a FWS award the student must meet the eligibility requirements and complete both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Georgia Tech Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid (GT APP) each year by the posted deadlines to be considered for the FWS award.

The student will initiate the work study job search by reviewing the web site of approved positions. Students are not placed in a work study position. Should the student need assistance in finding a job to match their hours and interest, the FWS Coordinator will be able to assist.
