APPLY FOR AID
What is Financial Aid?
Financial Aid refers to any type of money available to students and their parents to fund a college education. This includes institutional scholarships, outside scholarships, HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarship, grants, loans, and work study.
What Type of Student Am I?
The steps are basically the same for all students. However, the type of student you are, will dictate when you need to apply for aid and how the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA) will process your application for Financial Aid.

How Do I Apply For Aid?
STEP ONE: The Georgia Tech Application For Scholarships and Financial Aid
All students wishing to receive funds from Federal, State, or Institutional sources must complete a Georgia Tech Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid.. The priority deadline for this online application for entering Freshmen is March 1st . Returning, Transfer, and Graduate Students have a priority deadline of May 1st .
Financial Aid award packages are for one academic year only, so students must reapply for Financial Aid each year.
STEP TWO: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Financial Aid from ANY Sources: Students wishing to apply for all programs that Georgia Tech's Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA) administers, including Federal, State, and Institutional programs will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The OSFA must receive a processed, valid, and complete FAFSA by March 1st for Entering Freshmen and by May 1st for Returning, Transfer, and Graduate Students.
Please note that FAFSA processing can take from 1 to 3 weeks.
A valid FAFSA, processed by the U.S. Department of Education, is required for the OSFA to determine whether you qualify for Federal, State, or Institutional funds that carry a financial need component.
Georgia Tech's Title IV school code for the FAFSA is 001569.
For Georgia residents applying for ONLY the HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarship , the Georgia Student Financial Aid Application System (GSFAPPS) is the primary means for applying for the HOPE Scholarship administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC).
GSFAPPS is a web based application process that captures and edits all required application data to meet each GSFC program's unique requirements. To access GSFAPPS, an applicant must go through GACollege411.org . To apply an applicant must register as a user of Georgia College 411.
You must select Georgia Institute of Technology as the school you will attend.
The priority deadline for this online application for entering freshmen is March 1st . For returning and transfer students the priority deadline is May 1st.
Students who have been awarded funds from outside/private scholarships must also complete a Georgia Tech Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid so that OSFA may determine the proper disbursement schedule for your funds.
STEP THREE: Provide additional information if requested
Some students will be required to complete the process of Verification.
Verification is the process in which OSFA must verify that the information on the FAFSA is accurate.
If you are selected for Verification, you must complete the Verification process before any awards will be finalized. Our office will contact you about submitting additional required documents. OSFA will submit any and all changes required as a result of Verification.
STEP FOUR: Review Your Award Offer
For entering Freshmen our office begins to email notices regarding the award letter for the next academic year during the 1st week in April. Students access award letter information via BuzzPort.
Returning students can expect their award notifications to be available on BuzzPort in mid-June.
For Transfer students,
-
Georgia Tech must have officially admitted you.
-
Received all your final transcripts.
-
Your transcripts must be articulated prior to an official award being made.
Transfer Students entering in Fall may expect award notifications to be available by mid-June.
Graduate students should contact their academic departments or outside fellowship sponsors to determine their award levels for Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships.
OSFA will begin to package Graduate students seeking Stafford Loans for Fall of the next academic year starting in June-July. As our office becomes aware of additional forms of aid, we will revise your award as necessary.
